Be the champion of your ideas - Be your own Champion - Be Passionate and Take Responsibility - Build Trust - Be Patient
Throw a party - get people talking - host numerous pot lucks - engage in social capital building.
Branding the ideas of “Group Wisdom”, “Heart & Soul” etc…are important to carrying the message.
Identify allies or like minded individuals to become champions of these and their own ideas. Find a person who sets policy - win them over!
Explore how to change attitudes. How do we get individuals to move from behaving/thinking/planning in prescriptive ways to thinking about how and what we can create collaboratively.
Know who your stakeholders are and what if any ideological differences may exist between them.
Think more about how to slow us down enough as a planning department to weave in these ideas, concepts, techniques etc, into our planning process, while still getting the work done that needs to be done.
Think more about what is the scale appropriate/effective scale to use the Heart & Soul process.
Find ways to make this type of planning financially feasible and fiscally responsible. Quantify it?
Present a staff Report - present numerous staff reports - call brown bags with staff to share these ideas.
Conduct a Heart & Soul exercise with my colleagues.
Conduct an Appreciative Inquiry with my colleagues.
Explain to purpose of these exercises, why they make a difference and how they can build trust within the group.
Email Eric Young with Washoe County about his use of “Character Description” in his planning process, planning document.
